Congress of Black Women

   President : Tatenda Bwawa


                                 

 

Tatenda has been involved with the Congress since 2012, her current position being  President. She has held various positions within the Congress such as Secretary, Social Director and Publicity Director.  Tatenda is passionate about raising a new generation  of young leaders. 


  Past President: Dr. Lois Stewart–Archer


                                

Dr. Archer is the Regional Clinical Nurse Specialist of the Winnipeg Health Region, Rehabilitation and Geriatrics Programme - Geriatric Mental Health. She has a Master’s of Nursing degree specializing in Administration and Restorative Health as well as Specialty Certificate in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing from the Canadian Nurses Association since 1995. She provides consultations to a wide range of professionals and families regarding the management and treatment of challenging issues related to older adults with mental health/psychiatric concerns. Lois was elected Vice President of the Congress of Black Women of Manitoba Inc on April 30, 2011. She views this as another avenue to further advocate for women, women’s health, and minority issues. She also holds the positions of Scholarship Chair and Publicity Director. Lois is very active in her church; is editor of the Church Bulletin and sits on the Public Relations Committee. Lois has been married to Brian for 22 years and they have two children.


  President-Elect: Kenny Daodu 

                            

 

Kenny Daodu has been as selfless and a positive role model in coordinating and organizing events in the African community for many years.

She has received several awards including the “MANITOBA BLACK COMMUNITY SERVICE” award in February 2016, for outstanding achievement and significant contribution to the Black community.

She is one of the founders (NICCOM) Nigeria Canada Congress of Manitoba (a multi-ethnic, multicultural and multi-racial community organization) that welcomes and settles new immigrants into Manitoba. She is long-time member of the Manitoba Congress of Black Women. She was a council member at MEAAC (Multiculturalism Council) at the Legislative Manitoba and served as a board member in various organizations. Kenny is currently elected as an executive activist (giving her voice) to represent her membership and working closely with The Manitoba Government and General Employees Union (MGEU)  

She ran political elections as candidate twice at the provincial and federal levels. She remains actively involved, working with different organizations and volunteering her time to building strong children, strong families and strong communities.

Kenny is an employee of WRHA (Winnipeg Regional Health Authority) for 23 years. She has great passion for travelling, photograghs and gardening. She loves her culture and loves her church. She is happily married with two daughters, one is a medical doctor and the other into law.


  Treasurer: Rhonda Thompson


                         

Rhonda Thompson(-Wilson) is the current Treasurer for both COBW and Winnipeg's Black History Month Celebration Committee. She also volunteers as a mentor with Jamaican Association of Manitoba and Graffiti Gallery and performs at various community events throughout Winnipeg.

  Co-Program Director: Lynette Chitando


                            

Lynette is a graduate from the University of Winnipeg and has 2 years of experience in public practice as an external auditor. She finds personal fulfillment from getting involved in her community, including helping out at a few COBW events that have happened in the past. She has volunteered for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation as a fundraising volunteer, and has taken on a mentorship role for Junior Achievement, as well as for smaller organizations such as Adult Education and the Global Welcome Centre at the University of Winnipeg. She considers this position a blessing and an opportunity to really broaden her reach and impact, allowing her to support and inspire people, as well as be inspired herself.
